Belated Birthday Post

This is a little belated but as folks say, ‘Better Late than Never’.

.
Last weekend, a dear friend celebrated his birthday with us. We went not knowing what to expect as we had been pre-wired that he did not invite the usual group of folks this year. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we found the unfamiliar faces so warm and friendly. By the time dinner was halfway through, many new friendships were forged. Nice meeting y’all!

Dinner was at Xuan Xin in Tanjung Bungah. This place is amazingly full every weekend. I find the food so-so but guess it being the few air-conditioned steamboat buffet restaurants in Penang plus it’s reasonable pricing of under RM30nett per pax makes it a big hit with the Penangites. If you’ve not made reservations prior to heading over, you may as well forget about it ’coz the chances of you being turned away is about 99.99% on weekends. Don’t believe me? Try it once. :P

I’d like to write a little about the birthday dude. He is actually one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever met. However, he is extremely direct. He’s like what we Hokkiens refer to as “Tit kah long piak!”. That unfortunately makes him one of the most misunderstood guys I’ve ever known. Not one to slice his words nor beat around the bush, the poor dude had unintentionally offended a few folks and as a result, shunned from certain social activities.

.
So my dear friend, I am all for being direct and not having any hidden agenda … but we have to remember that humans are complex creatures. Not everyone is able to stomach the naked truth well, y’know. So let’s just be gentle with them, ya?

.
To you peeps out there, try opening up your hearts and minds to this dude. Trust me, you will find an offering of a friendship like no other. Sincerity in its purest form. Almost child-like. Amazingly beautiful.

This one’s for you, TH!
