Weekend Reflections

Things I learnt in the past 48 hours :

  • Reminder not to count the chickens before they’re hatched
  • Beef has taken over pork in my life
  • Mutton soup tastes AWESOME with a dash of Dewar’s. Honest!
  • Beer is still yucky…can’t ever get used to it
  • Fitness fanatics can be reeeally fun folks outside of the gym. Amused that some are pretty darn good at sucking face. LOL.
  • The Tg Bungah floating mosque Malay food is DEE best on the entire island
  • An old, geeky schoolmate turned out to be quite a hottie!
  • Men will always be men, no matter how high they’ve climbed in the corporate ladder
  • It’s not about the looks, but always about the attitude that spells S-E-X-I-N-E-S-S

The next 48 hrs is gonna be filled with even more mind-blowing stuff, life-altering even. With much excitement and anticipation, I await.

Yet another one, QM!

Yet another ‘Time flies!’ moment. Sigh. Really. WHY does it have to zoom by at such breakneck speed? Why can’t it slow down a little? Har???

.
Another 365 days have passed since I wrote this.

.
No thx to Friendster’s tight quota, I can no longer share pictures in my posts. So, will have to point you to a link and hopefully, you can view it even tho you are not in her friends’ list.

.
This has got to be my MOST fav pic of her thus far. Such poise. Such cheekiness. Such sexiness. Such joy. Yesss, that’s the wonderful, sexy, crazy QM.

.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HOT WOMAN!!!

.
Sorry I can’t be there to hug you in person or to join in the celebration this weekend but know that I am there with you in your heart. Drink LOTS and party HARD on my behalf, okayz? *muax*

Zealand Seafood Dinner

“We should come here for dinner one day, baby. Remember my friend I told you about? The chef and owner of this place? The food’s pretty good and my family makes it an annual tradition to eat here a few times a year. I wanna share the good food here with you.”
- Sweetheart’s words to me a few weeks ago.

.
So that was how we ended up at Zealand Seafood Restaurant on a Sunday evening having the belated birthday dinner for our beloved Emily.

.
Pictures taken that night can be viewed here.

.
“Darn, we forgot to get a birthday cake!” - I whispered to Sweetheart halfway thru dinner.
“No need. I duwan birthday cake” - B’day gal sitting next to me whispered back.

.
Eavesdropper! :P
.
Oh well. We still had fun minus the birthday cake. The food was stupendously yummy. Price was decent too. Total bill inclusive of food and drinks (many, many repeat orders of food AND drinks!) came up to RM203 for 7 of us. Rather reasonable pricing, we reckoned.

.
Titbits on Zealand Restaurant :
Facing the sea at Gurney Drive. Right next to Corner Club which is adjacent to Evergreen Laurel Hotel. It’s opened during the day to serve BKT (Bah Kut Teh). Never tried the BKT before. So dunno if it’s any good. At night, it’s only opened for ‘chu-char’.

.
Just before we left the restaurant, Sweetheart went to his buddy to thank him for the really good food and also to introduce me formally to the dude. I must say I was mighty pleased with his handshake. Spoke volumes to me.

.
“What’s a handshake gotta do with anything?”, you must be wondering. Well, I’ve always been aware of how folks extend their handshake.

.
Firm shake - firm hands, firm personality, good first impression.
Lame shake - lame hands, lame personality, bad first impression.

.
Get it? Well, it’s a personal opinion…so you don’t have to agree with me. :P

Happy Birthday, Ah Mun!

Weird how I wrote this post about how time creeps up on us and today, I am reminded of it again.

.
This time last year, I wrote about this.
A very special girl, she is. A heart of gold, she has. A world full of friends who love her heaps, she has. Wherever she goes or whatever she does, she simply oozes energy and appeal. Yes, that is our beloved EMILY WONG YEE MUN.

.
Today, she did it again. Went into hiding on her special day which makes it impossible for us to embarrass her at the office with a LOUD birthday song! Hmpf…never mind. We will have our chance. This Sunday for seafood dinner, remember? Hehe…you can’t run away from us, y’know… :D

.
Here’s a song dedicated to you. One of my favourite birthday songs of all time. Enjoy your day today and let’s have a blast this Sunday, ya!

.
*Lotsa hugz & muax*

.
P/S - HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all of you, my beloved friends and readers! If you are not easily offended, turn up your speakers and click here. Boo!

A BKT Birthday Celebration

Bah Kut Teh (BKT) has got to be the easiest dish to cook these days. Honestly. Those spice packets are easily available from any supermarkets. Just dump in whatever ingredients you fancy and hey presto, you have your very own homecooked BKT.

.
If you’re not confident about cooking your own BKT dish, refer to this post as a guideline. Very detailed and with pictures to guide you step-by-step. It really doesn’t get any easier than that. Me…I just threw in everything BKT-ish … minus the fatty meats. Too bad for some of the guys in the gang who love fatty meat, my very own Sweetheart included. :P

.

Reason we decided on BKT for dinner today was mainly becos a friend sheepishly admitted to us days ago that he has never had BKT in his entire life. Needless to say, we were not gonna let him stay a BKT virgin for long!

.
Go here to view the pictures taken on the BKT birthday party we threw for the dude.

.
Hope you had as much fun as we did, Isaac. You can now proudly tell your parents you ate rice with chopsticks today. And that you have had your BKT cherry popped! :D

Belated Birthday Post

This is a little belated but as folks say, ‘Better Late than Never’.

.
Last weekend, a dear friend celebrated his birthday with us. We went not knowing what to expect as we had been pre-wired that he did not invite the usual group of folks this year. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we found the unfamiliar faces so warm and friendly. By the time dinner was halfway through, many new friendships were forged. Nice meeting y’all!

.
Go here to view the pictures from the night’s celebration.

.
Dinner was at Xuan Xin in Tanjung Bungah. This place is amazingly full every weekend. I find the food so-so but guess it being the few air-conditioned steamboat buffet restaurants in Penang plus it’s reasonable pricing of under RM30nett per pax makes it a big hit with the Penangites. If you’ve not made reservations prior to heading over, you may as well forget about it ’coz the chances of you being turned away is about 99.99% on weekends. Don’t believe me? Try it once. :P

.
Go here to get details of the restaurant.

.
I’d like to write a little about the birthday dude. He is actually one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever met. However, he is extremely direct. He’s like what we Hokkiens refer to as “Tit kah long piak!”. That unfortunately makes him one of the most misunderstood guys I’ve ever known. Not one to slice his words nor beat around the bush, the poor dude had unintentionally offended a few folks and as a result, shunned from certain social activities.

.
So my dear friend, I am all for being direct and not having any hidden agenda … but we have to remember that humans are complex creatures. Not everyone is able to stomach the naked truth well, y’know. So let’s just be gentle with them, ya?

.
To you peeps out there, try opening up your hearts and minds to this dude. Trust me, you will find an offering of a friendship like no other. Sincerity in its purest form. Almost child-like. Amazingly beautiful.

.
This one’s for you, TH!

FQ

Friends make my world go round. Some are so dear that they are almost family. Similarly for most people, my friends are categorised according to the way we interact, the way we relate to each other and most essentially, the way our minds and hearts connect.

.
Of coz there are many different levels and categories for the folks who touch our lives but for simplicity sake, let’s just call out the 2 main categories :

  1. Friends
  2. Acquaintances

I won’t go into details of explaining how these 2 categories work. I think you know very well how they are differentiated, ya?

.
What I will go into is the category in-between those two, what I call my “FQ” - ‘Frenquaintance’. They are the ones who :

  • Only contact you when they need some advice/favor/tips/etc…
  • Sometimes make you feel that your friendship is one-sided
  • Can’t be completely honest with you because ‘duwan to hurt your feelings mah’
  • Have looks in their eyes that send out different messages to the ones verbalised to you
  • Laugh at you with others behind your back (but feel slightly guilty abt it)

The thing is, these folks are closer to me in my heart than just my acquiantances but yet, they have shown/proven themselves to be less than friends.

.
Of late, I realised a lot of my friends are actually my FQs. I have gone through a roller-coaster ride of emotions when I put together all their actions (or inaction) and words (or silence) in my mind.

.
With a heavy heart, I wondered about how I should place them in my Life. Should I just stop initiating contact with them (most of the time, it’s one-sided anyways)?  Or should I just shut them out of my heart completely to avoid getting hurt further?

.
No, I will NOT allow you folks to hurt me anymore. If my offering of a sincere friendship is not appreciated, there really is no point offering it in the first place, is there?

.
Definitely not.

Celebration # 3

This year, he pretty much had it covered. From a swanky KL hotel room for Celebration # 1 to a Superclub in Subang for Celebration # 2 and finally, to the beach in Penang for Celebration # 3. Then again, how could we expect any less from one of the smoothest operators we’ve ever known?

Chocolate Guiness Cupcakes!

Last week, a galfriend emailed me an interesting recipe that tickled my curiosity. Together with some galfriends, we decided to give the recipe a try over the weekend - with some minor tweaking of our own (we didn’t like the creamy topping and decided to substitute with vanilla ice-cream).

BM Yam Rice Hunt

Thanks to a fellow foodie, I learnt that there is a place in BM (Bukit Mertajam) that serves good yam rice. Considering that the island is rather deprived of such delicacy (there are some yam rice stalls peppered all over the island but none has stood out taste-wise), I decided to check out this place over the weekend.

Farewell? Nawww!

She’s heading some 300+ km south to do her thing. Strange how it didn’t really hit me till last night. We’ve talked and joked about it for awhile, and I’ve strangely never really thought of her as ‘going away’. More as ‘being tied up’.
.
Then, we had a group thingy. Dinner @ TGIF’s, drinking, playing games and talking c0ck @ O’reilly’s, supper at 1+am and finally calling it a night at way, way past our weeknite curfews.
.
Oreillys_collage
.
How do we know it was time to call it a night?
.
When one went "Ais panas satu!" and another went "Char koey teow satu, tak mau koay teow!". We knew then that it was time to go home. You know who you are. :P
.
Then, it suddenly hit me.

May

That’s what her family call her.
.
But for the dog years that I’ve known her, I’ve never called her by that name. She’s always been "B" to me. And to all the girls she bullied in school. Yes, she was our infamous school bully. Some grew up fearing her, some loathed her, some were attracted to her like moths to fire, and me…I grew up loving and hating her at the same time.
.
I still remember vividly the day we got our Rubella shots when we turned 12. As we sat in the library nursing our jabbed shoulders, B ran around slapping all the girls’ shoulders. While most cringed in fear and shock, I stared back at her - challenging her to slap my shoulder. She took one long look at me before running off to bully someone else. I think she realised then that we were on equal ground.
.
Fast forward a couple of years, we found ourselves spending alot of time together. She was actually a really smart student and was a favourite amongst our teachers. Unfortunately, she was lazy. Always looking for shortcuts to do things. They say the smartest of them all are always the laziest. I couldn’t agree more.
.
The year we turned 17, she moved out of her grandmother’s place and cramped into my room for a couple of months. My mom loved her dearly (and still do today). Yes, she has a skill that many worked hard to obtain - the ability to have women eating out of her palm.
.
Being the carefree person that she is, I was not surprised when she announced that she was leaving Penang to look for a job the day I received news that I had obtained a place for Pre-U.
.
Over the years, we met up here and there. Not often though. Perhaps once every few years. She led a life that was totally different from mine. Yet, our bond was never broken.
.
Last week, she texted me to tell me that she will be back in Penang for 3 days. Of coz I was elated. Met up with her for lunch today. It was amazing how easily we picked things up between us. She is still the same crazy person and hehe, still very much a bully. I felt sorry for the waitor she gave a hard time to.
.
I am not sure when I will see her again but one thing’s for sure, she has a permanent spot in my heart.
.
This is May aka B.

Wet Hokkien Mee Thursday

It rained cats & dogs mid-morning on Thursday. Many parts of the FTZ area were flooded.
.
As I drove to the office to pick up some peeps for lunch, I saw folks getting drenched trudging to their cars. Even though armed with brollies, they looked like wet rats. Heh…that says alot about our cafeteria food, eh?
.
Thanks to JE, the drive downtown was a short one.
.
We headed to our favourite Hokkien mee place in town. Remember this and this? The makeshift stall has been demolished to make way for road expansion and thankfully, the owner moved some 50m down the road to a proper building. So, we will get to enjoy our bowls of Hokkien mee for a long time to come. :)))
.
Today, all 8 of us ‘tham ciak kooi’s enjoyed a good hour of great food and even greater company.

Groom or Doom?

"As of June 27 2008, no more gaming nor clubbing for me. But at least I get my last round of Happy Hour before I sign up for a lifetime commitment?"

Squidward Sweetheart

Someone recently remarked that my Sweetheart reminded her of a character from her favourite cartoon - SpongeBob SquarePants.
.
I thought it was comical … until I took this picture of him last Sunday. Then I realised the striking resemblance.
.
See below and tell me what you think.
.
Squidward_tentacles_1
.
The irony is, he hates squids.
.
We go for our favourite mee sotong at the Esplanade food court and he transfers all the ’sotong’ to me. I, on the other hand, transfer half of my ‘mee’ to him. Yes, we do make the perfect couple. When it comes to food … and others. ;)
.
Hehe…I may get into trouble for putting this one up today. But hey, a little love here and there goes a loooonnnggg way. :D

Our # 1 Camwhore

To quote a certain someone today :
.
"…I admit that I am indeed a "Whore"… I look back those photo also I beh tahan…"
.
So, to celebrate this day when our very own Camwhore finally admits that he is "indeed a whore", I put together some pictures taken over the past few years and presented it to him.
.

.
I am pretty darn sure that these pics are gonna make his many fan-sie swoon and drool. And his #1 fan is so gonna turn this into her wallpaper at work! ;)
.
We know, you know, they know - yet, she doesn’t know. Pity, eh. But then again, I believe she is suffering more from denial than from ignorance.

Pussy Whipped

For those who don’t know what the above means, read it up here.
.
Most men I know cringe at the mention of it while most women just either smile knowingly or just plain snicker.
.
The cold truth is, most women don’t find whipped guys appealing. No matter how many hoops he’s willing to jump through, the women will never really be impressed. Depending on the type of woman who’s holding the whip handle, the guy will either get the cold shoulder or worse, get strung along just for kicks or for the financial benefits. Yes it’s true. Some women can be real bitches.
.
The thing is, these whipped guys are fully aware of what they are doing and despite that little nagging voice that tells them what fools they are to be whipped like that, they will always rationalise it as "She’s worth it". Trust me guys. Any woman who takes pleasure in having your balls removed is totally not worth it. She should only want and love you for who you are, not who she wants you to be.
.
To all my guy friends who are willingly whipped, I hope for your sake that the woman is truly worth it.
.
Otherwise, all you need to remember is this : There are many other fishes in the sea.

Happy Birthday, Jonnie Boy!

I have many biker friends but I have never met a biker guy who is as nuts about Ducati as this guy. One just needs to grunt the word (or anything that sounds like) ‘bike’ and that will set him off. I sometimes believe that he would prefer his Ducati to a woman. :p
.
While most folks celebrate their birthdays over a meal and some drinks with family and/or friends, this metro guy has chosen to hang out with 60 bikers from the northern states.
.
So, since you have no time for us non-bikers tonight, we will celebrate with you tomorrow night instead, ok?

Halal Dinner

This Sunday, we went white instead of red.
.
Partly because I wanted to try something new but mainly because I had to make dinner ‘halal’ for a dear friend who’s in town over the weekend from Down Under.
.
So, instead of the usual beef, pork or mutton … I chose to cook fish for dinner tonight.
.
Menu for tonight :

  • Omelette with onions (Never in my entire life did I have to fry FIFTEEN eggs at one go! And yet, it was the first dish to be wiped clean!)
  • Broccoli with Chinese mushrooms (they’ll never tire of this vege)
  • Fried Water Convolvulus with sambal
  • Sweet & Sour Fish
  • Stingray Curry with Okra

Some pics of the food taken tonight.

Hungry folks …

Because my dining table can only sit a max of 8 folks at one time, we had to split the gang into 2. So, while the first batch filled their tummies, the second batch did some camwhoring.

.
Nice to finally meet Makiko! :D
.
After dinner, Sweetheart did the dishes. Hehe…the sight of a man in the kitchen never fails to turn me on! ;)
.
Since it was footie night, some folks watched the game on EPSN while others spent some time catching up with each other. It’s amazing how we work in the same building, yet get so lost in our own work and space.
.
Despite our general agreement to keep Sunday nights alcohol-free, we still indulged a little tonight. All’s good, all’s good. Gave us a good buzz. Also had some rather interesting PLU conversations tonight. ;)
.
Oh, I bought myself a new toy today! It’s but a small luxury to reward myself for the hard work in the past few months.
.
*wide grin*

Was it a dream?

Their time together was short. Yet, it felt like time stood still when they were together.
.
It’s sweet.
It’s physical.
It’s WOW!
It’s madness.
It’s … just not meant to be.
.
It may very well be one of those magical moments which we all wake up from and wonder "Was that just a beautiful dream or did that really happen?"
.
And so, they went back to their different lives with that special memory buried deep in their hearts.
