Yet another one, QM!

Yet another ‘Time flies!’ moment. Sigh. Really. WHY does it have to zoom by at such breakneck speed? Why can’t it slow down a little? Har???

.
Another 365 days have passed since I wrote this.

.
No thx to Friendster’s tight quota, I can no longer share pictures in my posts. So, will have to point you to a link and hopefully, you can view it even tho you are not in her friends’ list.

.
This has got to be my MOST fav pic of her thus far. Such poise. Such cheekiness. Such sexiness. Such joy. Yesss, that’s the wonderful, sexy, crazy QM.

.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HOT WOMAN!!!

.
Sorry I can’t be there to hug you in person or to join in the celebration this weekend but know that I am there with you in your heart. Drink LOTS and party HARD on my behalf, okayz? *muax*

Zealand Seafood Dinner

“We should come here for dinner one day, baby. Remember my friend I told you about? The chef and owner of this place? The food’s pretty good and my family makes it an annual tradition to eat here a few times a year. I wanna share the good food here with you.”
- Sweetheart’s words to me a few weeks ago.

.
So that was how we ended up at Zealand Seafood Restaurant on a Sunday evening having the belated birthday dinner for our beloved Emily.

.
Pictures taken that night can be viewed here.

.
“Darn, we forgot to get a birthday cake!” - I whispered to Sweetheart halfway thru dinner.
“No need. I duwan birthday cake” - B’day gal sitting next to me whispered back.

.
Eavesdropper! :P
.
Oh well. We still had fun minus the birthday cake. The food was stupendously yummy. Price was decent too. Total bill inclusive of food and drinks (many, many repeat orders of food AND drinks!) came up to RM203 for 7 of us. Rather reasonable pricing, we reckoned.

.
Titbits on Zealand Restaurant :
Facing the sea at Gurney Drive. Right next to Corner Club which is adjacent to Evergreen Laurel Hotel. It’s opened during the day to serve BKT (Bah Kut Teh). Never tried the BKT before. So dunno if it’s any good. At night, it’s only opened for ‘chu-char’.

.
Just before we left the restaurant, Sweetheart went to his buddy to thank him for the really good food and also to introduce me formally to the dude. I must say I was mighty pleased with his handshake. Spoke volumes to me.

.
“What’s a handshake gotta do with anything?”, you must be wondering. Well, I’ve always been aware of how folks extend their handshake.

.
Firm shake - firm hands, firm personality, good first impression.
Lame shake - lame hands, lame personality, bad first impression.

.
Get it? Well, it’s a personal opinion…so you don’t have to agree with me. :P

Happy Birthday, Ah Mun!

Weird how I wrote this post about how time creeps up on us and today, I am reminded of it again.

.
This time last year, I wrote about this.
A very special girl, she is. A heart of gold, she has. A world full of friends who love her heaps, she has. Wherever she goes or whatever she does, she simply oozes energy and appeal. Yes, that is our beloved EMILY WONG YEE MUN.

.
Today, she did it again. Went into hiding on her special day which makes it impossible for us to embarrass her at the office with a LOUD birthday song! Hmpf…never mind. We will have our chance. This Sunday for seafood dinner, remember? Hehe…you can’t run away from us, y’know… :D

.
Here’s a song dedicated to you. One of my favourite birthday songs of all time. Enjoy your day today and let’s have a blast this Sunday, ya!

.
*Lotsa hugz & muax*

.
P/S - HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all of you, my beloved friends and readers! If you are not easily offended, turn up your speakers and click here. Boo!

A BKT Birthday Celebration

Bah Kut Teh (BKT) has got to be the easiest dish to cook these days. Honestly. Those spice packets are easily available from any supermarkets. Just dump in whatever ingredients you fancy and hey presto, you have your very own homecooked BKT.

.
If you’re not confident about cooking your own BKT dish, refer to this post as a guideline. Very detailed and with pictures to guide you step-by-step. It really doesn’t get any easier than that. Me…I just threw in everything BKT-ish … minus the fatty meats. Too bad for some of the guys in the gang who love fatty meat, my very own Sweetheart included. :P

.

Reason we decided on BKT for dinner today was mainly becos a friend sheepishly admitted to us days ago that he has never had BKT in his entire life. Needless to say, we were not gonna let him stay a BKT virgin for long!

.
Go here to view the pictures taken on the BKT birthday party we threw for the dude.

.
Hope you had as much fun as we did, Isaac. You can now proudly tell your parents you ate rice with chopsticks today. And that you have had your BKT cherry popped! :D

Belated Birthday Post

This is a little belated but as folks say, ‘Better Late than Never’.

.
Last weekend, a dear friend celebrated his birthday with us. We went not knowing what to expect as we had been pre-wired that he did not invite the usual group of folks this year. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we found the unfamiliar faces so warm and friendly. By the time dinner was halfway through, many new friendships were forged. Nice meeting y’all!

.
Go here to view the pictures from the night’s celebration.

.
Dinner was at Xuan Xin in Tanjung Bungah. This place is amazingly full every weekend. I find the food so-so but guess it being the few air-conditioned steamboat buffet restaurants in Penang plus it’s reasonable pricing of under RM30nett per pax makes it a big hit with the Penangites. If you’ve not made reservations prior to heading over, you may as well forget about it ’coz the chances of you being turned away is about 99.99% on weekends. Don’t believe me? Try it once. :P

.
Go here to get details of the restaurant.

.
I’d like to write a little about the birthday dude. He is actually one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever met. However, he is extremely direct. He’s like what we Hokkiens refer to as “Tit kah long piak!”. That unfortunately makes him one of the most misunderstood guys I’ve ever known. Not one to slice his words nor beat around the bush, the poor dude had unintentionally offended a few folks and as a result, shunned from certain social activities.

.
So my dear friend, I am all for being direct and not having any hidden agenda … but we have to remember that humans are complex creatures. Not everyone is able to stomach the naked truth well, y’know. So let’s just be gentle with them, ya?

.
To you peeps out there, try opening up your hearts and minds to this dude. Trust me, you will find an offering of a friendship like no other. Sincerity in its purest form. Almost child-like. Amazingly beautiful.

.
This one’s for you, TH!

生日快乐!

This year is a big year for you, yes? A year of much excitement and many life-altering decisions. I’m sure if you think back to all the rides you’ve been on for the past 12 months, you’ll go “WOW!”. I know I did.

.
I cannot be physically there to give you a birthday hug but know that I am thinking of you with much, much love on this special day, ok?

.
Every year, I pray. That come October 20th, I will get the chance to wish you lots of love, joy and happiness although knowing that you already have them in your Life. One can never have too much of those, eh? :) .
.

祝您心想事成!

.
P/S - Hope you like the mugshot I made you today. :)

Celebration # 3

This year, he pretty much had it covered. From a swanky KL hotel room for Celebration # 1 to a Superclub in Subang for Celebration # 2 and finally, to the beach in Penang for Celebration # 3. Then again, how could we expect any less from one of the smoothest operators we’ve ever known?

Happy Birthday, Girlie!

If there’s an award for the most supportive friend, she wins hands-down.
If there’s an award for the most patient person, no one comes close.
If there’s an award for the person with the BIGGEST heart, she takes it home.
.
This is her.
.
Girlie_tan
.
And today is her day.
.
Those who know her, love her. And those who love her know that she loves back unconditionally. Never one to judge, she is always the first to open up her arms and heart.
.
In recent years, I have watched her blossom. From a timid, insecure gal to the gorgeous, sexy (HOT! HOT! HOT!) and confident gal she is today. She now glares back at what used to intimidate her. No longer one to take BS from folks who take her for granted, she has grown to be stronger. To be bolder.
.
Today, I am honored to say that I am darn proud of her. And also darn lucky to have her as one of my bestest friends! I know without a doubt that she will always have my back. No matter what.
.
Thanks for your unconditional love, girl.
Thanks for your wonderful support when I am down and out.
Thanks for believing in me when all have given up.
Thanks for always being there for me when I needed you…
…even when I insisted that I didn’t need you.
And most importantly, thanks for being you.

.
Just remember that you deserve to be loved. To be cherished. To be pampered. To be appreciated. Because you are *totally* worth it! And anyone who makes you feel unloved, uncherished, unpampered and unappreciated do NOT deserve to have you in his/her life.
.
You are truly a gem and I love you very, very, very MUCHO!

Happy Birthday, D!

It has been 3 years since our first hello.
.
Born and bred in different parts of the globe, never in our wildest dreams did we think that our paths will cross one day. We led different lifestyles, built different dreams, moved in different social circles and drove down different career paths.
.
All it took was a casual conversation between some guys who found themselves thousands of miles away from home that brought him into my world. I will be forever grateful to RH for bringing him to my dinner party that night. A strong, lifelong friendship was forged that night.
.
For the past 3 years, we maintained on-and-off contact as we rode the waves of our separate lives.
.
You know how strong a bond you feel with certain folks no matter how far apart you are physically? Or how different your lives are led? Or however short time you knew that person? That’s how my bond with him is.
.
We can sit together in comfortable silence in the dark. Or just drive around aimlessly talking crap the whole night. Or just share a private joke over the dinner table. Or a wink across the dance floor (especially when I spotted a hot chick and dared him to pick her up!). Or some real serious H2H talk about matters that are closest to our hearts.
.
This is him carving our X’mas turkey last year.
.
Img_0033
.
And this is him goofing around with Sweetheart at my man’s birthday party earlier this year.
.
Img_0039
.
He is also the guy who took me on my virgin visit to a gentleman’s club.
.
This guy celebrated his birthday last Sunday. We threw him a surprise party. Dinner was a fusion of Italian and Indian food. Birthday cake was dark belgian chocolate (can you guess who was in charge of getting the cake?).
.
Here’s a picture of our dinner.
.
Fusion_dinner
.
Baby asparagus and baby potatoes were from our CH trip, the only vege I bought from the highland. Dessert was the birthday cake.
.
The night was perfect … the fusion food, the b’day cake, the super late night Mahjong session … except for one thing …
.
The birthday boy was MIA. :`(
.
I’m sorry,  D…that you are going through this rough patch at this point in your life. And I’m sorry that those you love couldn’t be with you on your special day. We tried, we really tried…but we found out too late that you didn’t want company.
.
I will not lie and tell you I understand what you are going through now coz I don’t. I can offer you what you are willing to take from me. What I am capable of giving to you. That hug you gave me on Saturday night was a silent one that spoke a thousand words to me. Although no words were exchanged between us, I felt your sorrow and your pain as we held each other tight. I had to choke back tears then. I have to choke back tears now as I write this.
.
Know that I love you very much and I am here for you whenever you need me, k?

Happy Birthday, Fran!

The clock just struck midnight. A few of us stayed up long after dinner (thanks to CSI Sunday night reruns as entertainment) to wish this special girl a wonderful birthday.

Happy Birthday, Auntie Ann!

She just turned 67 but does not look a day over 47 to me.
.
This lady has got to be the most generous person I have ever known. An example of her generosity was when I mentioned in passing to her that I liked Estee Lauder’s Pleasure and I suddenly found bottles of it for my birthday, Christmas, New Year or whatever possible occasion to be presented with it as a gift! I felt so bad about it that I had to tell her a white lie that I no longer like the fragrance. :\
.
A trip to the mall is quite an adventure with this energetic lady. She walks faster than any 60+ year old woman I know and definitely faster than a lot of 30+ folks I know!
.
She has so much love to give that it’s sometimes mind-boggling wondering how that small (in physique) a person can have so big a heart to give out such an abundance of love.
.
There are many wonderful things she has achieved in the past 67 years and one of them is giving birth to an extremely caring and wonderful guy (although he can sometimes be anally retentive!). No, I am not trying to kiss your ass, M :P … but just to remind you that your mom is really a wonderful person. Despite her quirks and eccentricities, she has touched the lives of many - mine included.
.
P/S - I managed to steal a picture of her from M’s FB photo album. Here’s the birthday gal blowing her birthday cake.
.
Ann
.
I look forward to many, many more birthday wishes for this wonderful lady.

Happy Birthday, Jackie!

See this gorgeous lady?
.
Img_0470
.
She is the kinda girl folks will remember after the briefest of encounters. If we gotta pin the pulse of any party to one person, she’d be it. No matter where she goes, this KL gal touches lives in ways that many will never dream possible.
.
Our friendship started back in August 2000 when I joined the Dell family. We did many things together. From working hard @ Dell to working out at the gym to making waves in the clubbing scene on weekends and to sharing gossips on the men in our lives. Oh, and the cooking and drinking! We cooked alot back then, and drank even more. She was the one who introduced me to drinks I never knew existed in this world! And yes, she was the one who got me started on my Absolut collection.
.
3 wonderful years just flew by and before we knew it, it was time for her to leave Penang. The man in her life was moving back to Sydney and she was moving with him. So, in August 2003, Dell lost a prized employee. Happy to say I didn’t lose a good friend. We kept closely in touch through the years.
.
Then in July 2004, I visited her and her man in Sydney. It was like the time apart never happened. We immediately hooked back and were having so much fun. Although I had to do some work (it was a business trip after all), we still managed to spend some quality time together. I gotta say Jackie and Derek are the best hosts I’ve ever known. They throw the bestest parties! :D
.
In late 2005, they moved back to KL from Sydney and from March 2006 onwards, Sweetheart and I found ourselves making frequent trips to KL to hang out with them. Of coz it helps that their place was a plush condo at Sri Hartamas. ;) Even some KL hotel rooms cannot beat the luxury of their guest room! Sweetheart and I were totally spoilt every time we drove down to spend our weekends in KL.
.
They have since moved out of that place and are making plans to move back to Sydney soon. Truth be told, I will miss them an awful lot, especially Jackie. But I know that our friendship will stand the test of time and distance - as it always has through the years.
.
I love you to bits, girl. Always, always, always remember that, ya!
.
P/S - QM is right. It only gets better from here. Welcome to the club! :)))

Lifetime Imprints

The recent excitement on Sweetheart’s milestone birthday made me think about my past birthdays. I found myself strolling down memory lane - reminiscing on certain birthdays that are permanently marked in my heart.
.
21st birthday

  • Somehow, I still remember this like it was just yesterday. My mom gave me the customary gold key pendant with a gold chain to mark the day I turned 21. I wore it for a couple of years before deciding gold is not for me. Have not worn any other gold accessory since then.
  • It was a celebration with 2 of the most important persons in my life then - my mom and my then Sweetheart.
  • Definitely a birthday to remember till I am old and gray.

25th birthday

  • This was my first birthday celebrated outside of my homeland and without my family and closest friends.
  • It was very exciting to have Mexican guys serenading me just before I blew the candles on my birthday cake. My then-colleagues took me to this great Mexican restaurant (unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of that place anymore) in Sonoma County to celebrate the day I turned a quarter of a century.
  • The memory of the romantic drive along Bodega Bay with a certain someone will be forever etched in my heart. :’) We enjoyed a really good dinner at a seafood restaurant overlooking the bay. Totally breathtaking!
  • Another sweet memory of a different romantic drive along the coastline of Marin County (the other end of the Golden Gate Bridge from the Bay Area) with another certain someone. We stopped for some clam chowder at a quaint town along the coastline. It was the tastiest claim chowder I’ve ever had! I still remember my heart beating a thousand beats per second as I sat across the table from him.
  • Yes, it was definitely the year my heart was going many different directions at any one time!

30th birthday

  • I remember being totally carefree and living Life at its best then!
  • It was the year I arranged a really good local caterer to feed my family and friends at the party.
  • It was the last year I got to enjoy zero financial commitment (I don’t consider a car loan a ‘real’ commitment. Too small an amount and can easily be paid off in 3-5 years).
  • It was also the last year I got to enjoy the shopping Life of nary a glance at the pricetag before deciding to purchase an item.
  • I purchased my apartment the following year. End of financial freedom. :( But no regrets…love my pad to death! *Start of lansi moment* Hey, not everyone is able to do it alone - without any bf/hubby or sugar daddy to sponsor some dough, k! :P *End of lansi moment*

33rd birthday

  • This was the most recent one. It was special to me because I celebrated it with Sweetheart over a romantic dinner at the tallest building in Bangkok. Blisssssss.
  • He gave me my birthday kiss at the backseat of a Thai cab when the clock struck midnight. *silly grin*
  • It was also special because I celebrated it again with my brother and some very good friends when we got back to Penang. T’was a 3-in-1 celebration that night. To mark my return from a tiring business trip to US and Japan, my double-3 birthday and also, CNY which was just around the corner then. My, what a celebration!
  • Definitely one to remember for a looooonnnnggg time to come.

.
Now, don’t get me wrong. There are still many other birthday celebrations which were special in their own way. It’s just that the ones listed above are, well - extra special. ;)

Belated Birthdays

On Sunday, we celebrated the belated birthdays of 2 March babies.
.
The guest list was kept small coz not much energy to do any elaborate cooking due to the previous night’s big birthday bash for Sweetheart.
.
So, only 2 items on the menu for dinner on Sunday (other than the birthday cake lah).

  • Mixed Linguine with minced pork
    - we mixed regular linguine with a gourmet hot chilli linguine I bought from an Italian gourmet store in Austin. Bad news was we overcooked the hot chilli linguine ‘cos was too busy cooking the minced meat sauce. So, it turned out too soft :( Wasn’t really happy with the results.
  • Mashed Potatoes with crispy bacon
    - this was a HUGE success! I knew it was a winner when Sweetheart commented "Baby, you know I am not a fan of mashed potatoes but this is reeeallly good! I don’t mind having extra helpings."
  • Birthday cake was tiramisu. An all-time favourite with most folks.

.

.
After dinner, the owner of the dishwashing task (aka Sweetheart) recruited a helper. He washed while his helper wiped dry.
.
Img_0110_1
.
Now, do not let the pout fool ya! He was just putting on the act so that we girls will come to his rescue and offer to take over the task from him. Of coz we were not fooled. :D
.
We then called it an early night. Partly because most of us were tired from the previous night’s partying but mainly because we all had to work the following day.
.
Overall, a FANTABULOUS weekend of celebrating, indulging, and loads of loving!

A new man is born

For many, many years, he has always prioritised the interests and preferances of others and shelved his own. Over a period of time, he has forgotten how it is to be happy and to make decisions purely for his own happiness. It took me a loonnnnggg time to break that shell he has built over the past 9 years of his life. It was a painful process but it was oh-so-worth it!
.
Today, I am so glad to see that he is different man. Even his own friends have commented to me that they can see he is a much, much happier person these days.
.
On 5th April 2008, he celebrated his third decade on this planet. Although I did most of the arrangements, I made sure he was involved in most of the decision making. One of the things I am very aware of about my man is that he hates surprises (especially on matters that affect his schedule and his personal preferences). So, I made sure there are no surprises to him when it came to arranging his big day.
.
For as long as I’ve known him, I have never seen my Sweetheart this excited about his birthday. Admittedly, it was rather contagious ‘cos he got me rather excited about it too!
.
After all the partying and celebrations were over and done with, as we laid snugly in each other’s arms that night, he whispered into my ear "I must say it was indeed a HUGE success, baby. Thank you for making it great!"
.
We went to sleep with joy in our hearts and promises of many, many wonderful dreams ahead.

06
Apr

The Big 3-0

It started with a mini celebration when the clock struck 12. We had a small cake (thanks to some new friends we met a couple of weeks ago) to celebrate the first few hours of his day. Pictures were shared earlier.
.
Fast forward a few hours and some much needed sleep later. We found ourselves in the company of some good friends enjoying a sumptuous meal at Ribs. Sweetheart thoroughly enjoyed his Baby Back. Yum! Yum!
.
Dinner1
.
Halfway through dinner, we received a call from a dear friend who has moved to the other side of the world to chase her dreams. Mari, thanks for calling and I know I said this to you over the phone but don’t care! I will say it again - WE ALL MISS YOU VERY, VERY, VERY MUCH!!! Faster come back to visit us sometime soon, ya! And we promise that we will gather the entire of Penang (well, at least all the happening folks on this island! *wink*) to come out and party with ya! ;)
.
Dinner2
.
After dinner, we joined MORE friends at our favourite club in town. It started with some friends filling up the VIP area from 11pm and within the hour, the place got so packed that I had a hard time moving around to snap pictures. I did get some happy shots though. :D
.
He loves dark chocolates. So, I got him a dark Belgian chocolate cake. He loved it, I loved it, our friends loved it and the folks at MoMo loved it.
.
Club1
.
And as expected, they tried hard, reeally hard…to get the birthday man drunk.
.
Club2
.
They almost succeeded but Sweetheart was insistent that he didn’t want to KO at his own birthday party. He wanted to stay sober to enjoy every moment of it and so, between the 2 of us, we hatched a plot to keep him from going under. What plot? Well, if I share it here, I will hafta kill all of ya! :P
.
Club3
.
Despite all that, I controlled my own intake the entire night to ensure that I stayed sober by the end of the night to drive us home safely. Wasn’t even high when we walked out of the club at past 3am. Oh well, it was his night. As long as my man is happy at the end of the night, that’s what matters most to me. :)
.
Club4
.
And of coz there is Ham, strawberries and what they do for him. Being the good friend that I am, I ensured he had at least one of the few strawberries from the top of the cake. Don’t ever doubt my love for you, eh!
.
Club5
.
More friends having a ball of a time.
.
Club6
.
Some joined us much, much later (almost 2am) but they still had a good time. Some even took a short nap to sleep off the booze and woke up ready to party some more! ;)
.
Club7
.
Although 2 of their brothers were unable to make it due to unavoidable circumstances, they were definitely there in spirit and mind. So, the remaining 3 brothers did some improvision in order to pose for a ‘brothers shot’.
.
Img_0089_3
.
Jo & ‘Mirt, you guys were there with us that night. See your happy faces on their phones??? Yes, you were definitely there! ;)
.
And I’ve saved the best picture for last.
.

.
He was indeed a very, very, very happpppeee man that night! :D Thanks to each and every one of you, 5th April 2008 will be forever etched in his heart as one of the happiest days in his Life.
.
Thank you from the very depths of my heart for making it so special for him. *happy, happy tears* :’)

Before & After Midnite

Before midnight, we had a small belated birthday do for our Jonnie Boy at our favourite laid-back restaurant in town, ECCO. He didn’t want a big celebration. So, we kept it super small.
.
Collage_3
.
Then, when the clock struck 12 midnight, we had a somewhat mini celebration for my Sweetheart.
.
Birthday_collage_1
.
Why ’somewhat mini’? Because it was more personal between the 2 of us. :) The bigger celebration with many other friends will be on Saturday night. There will be a bigger cake, bigger group of friends, bigger hugs, bigger kisses, and many bigger stuffs! ;)
.
What’s a birthday celebration without birthday kisses, eh? Of coz he got his fair share of smooches from his woman!
.
Bday_kiss
.
Stay tuned. Will upload a more detailed post on Saturday night’s celebration. :D
