Happy Birthday, Ah Mun!

Weird how I wrote this post about how time creeps up on us and today, I am reminded of it again.

.
This time last year, I wrote about this.
A very special girl, she is. A heart of gold, she has. A world full of friends who love her heaps, she has. Wherever she goes or whatever she does, she simply oozes energy and appeal. Yes, that is our beloved EMILY WONG YEE MUN.

.
Today, she did it again. Went into hiding on her special day which makes it impossible for us to embarrass her at the office with a LOUD birthday song! Hmpf…never mind. We will have our chance. This Sunday for seafood dinner, remember? Hehe…you can’t run away from us, y’know… :D

.
Here’s a song dedicated to you. One of my favourite birthday songs of all time. Enjoy your day today and let’s have a blast this Sunday, ya!

.
*Lotsa hugz & muax*

.
P/S - HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all of you, my beloved friends and readers! If you are not easily offended, turn up your speakers and click here. Boo!

Dracula Attack!

About a month ago, I wrote about this.

.
Today, another friend pinged me to complain that he has been getting nightly visits from the Cimicidae family. Only when he started losing precious sleep and getting rudely woken up 4-5 times a night by serious bouts of itchiness did he realise that he’s being sucked dry every single night by those damn draculas! Go here to view an interesting youtube on how smart these little buggers are when it comes to finding the perfect spot to suck our blood bank dry.

.
Folks say KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. Do not doubt the truth in that phrase! Go read up on these mini draculas at this site which was created by the industry’s top expert, Richard Cooper.

.
Just to give you an idea how the enemy looks like, go here. And save the “How kewt!” comments. Trust me, they will not seem so cute when they are sucking you dry as you recuperate during the night.

.
Read here to find how to keep those blood suckers away.

.
Also, if you are like most of the folks I know, you will have stuff stashed under your bed to maximise room space. More so if you live in an apartment and have *very* limited storage space. BIG mistake!

“Clutter is a bed bug’s best friend and a pest management professional’s worst enemy”
.
So the next time you wanna chuck that book or magazine under your bed, think again. You’re actually building a nest for those blood suckers. Might as well be donating blood to the GH Blood Bank and plus, you won’t be scratching yourself silly for days on end.

.
Now, would you prefer to be a Sucker or a Suckee???

The elusive 6-pack

On a groggy Tuesday morning, sitting amongst the bunch of unread emails in my Inbox was this from my man. It’s actually a pretty good article on how to eat and live towards every workout addict’s dream - Ribbed Abs.

.
Basically, the 10 nutrition strategies outlined in the article are as below :

  1. Whey less
  2. Bone up on dairy
  3. Eat large quantites of food
  4. Eat often
  5. Drink green tea
  6. Ban trans
  7. Eat fatty fish
  8. Be wary of sugar-free products
  9. Don’t be so sweet
  10. Quit Boozing

*To understand more about these 10 strategies, read up on the article as shared at the very beginning of this post*

.
He : “Looks like I must eat more often as per strategy # 4.”
Me :  “It’s not #4 that is a problem. Read # 10. Our weekend lifestyle ain’t exactly in-line with that.”
He : “Ok wat…at least not daily…”
Me : “Read #10 again, baby. Especially the ones highlighted in red.”

.
Here is what it says :
“If you are going to drink alcohol, at least drink wine and get a few antioxidants. But seriously, cut the alcohol.

Do you know anyone who has ripped abs and still drinks on a regular basis (and yes, weekly counts as regularly!)? No, you don’t, unless they are a genetic freak of nature. And, if you were a genetic freak of nature with naturally rock-hard abs, you probably wouldn’t be reading this article.”

.
So, our options are clear. Have fun on weekends with not-so-ribbed abs OR have boring weekends with super-ribbed abs.

.
Sigh. Life is so filled with tough decisions, eh?

Subconscious Mind - A Deadly Weapon

A recent conversation I had with a certain someone threw some new and totally different light to a topic that’s been boggling my mind for awhile. It made both of us think about our subconscious mind. To quote him : “Every action has an equal or opposite reaction”

.
I mean, our subconscious mind can make us do things without us realising that we’re actually doing them. And it works both ways - it can work FOR or AGAINST us. Depending on how much positivity or negativity one is surrounded with. Scary, ain’t it?

.
It answers alot of questions in my head but it also scares the shits outta me. I mean, I wouldn’t want to subconsciously hurt someone because I’ve been hurt by others in past experiences. It would be so blardy unfair to that someone. Then again, to quote one of Sweetheart’s fav lines - “Who says Life is ever fair?”

.
So really….if hurting her would help him get over the hurt he endured years ago, I guess that’s his way of fighting his past demons then. Unfair? Yes. Real? Also yes. Sad? So yes.

.
But still….to dump the onus of forgiving in her court so that he can then open up his heart and perform his own forgiving act to kill some 9-year old demons? Damn. That’s cruel. But then again, depending on how you look at it. It’s also pretty ingenious. Heh…

.
Thinking about it now, I guess that explains why I do not hate a single soul in my entire life. Dislike, yes. Hate, no. I just don’t have the emotional energy to cater to such a big ask.

.
Think about it : It actually takes ALOT to truly HATE someone (the worst kind of it all is the kind when you love AND hate that same someone). It festers in your heart like a disease. You think you moved on with life but hey, if you have not truly forgiven and stopped hating, you’re actually still stuck in that emotional space. It’s just pushed to a dark corner of your heart but it’s still there. And will always be there until you stop hating and let it go through the act of forgiving.

.
Thanks dear….for our late-night conversations. They don’t come by often coz we are both so busy trekking water furiously to stay above the surface which zaps up our energy and time. So whatever time we get to connect is really appreciated. Truly and deeply precious.

.
So folks, think about it for awhile. Of the strength of our subconscious mind and what it’s capable of. Very easily, in fact, too easily…it can take control of how we live Life. We must stay mentally and emotionally strong to BE in charge. To not allow it to hurt not just ourselves but also our loved ones. We must, ya? We must! We must!

Wake-up Call

Time really flies. Not just flapping by but actually ZOOMING by in supersonic speed! Know what I mean?

.
Doesn’t matter if you’re a student or working full time or running your own business or a house-husband/wife. 24 hours in a day is just not enough! Be it insufficient for work or for completing some assignments or for watching the dang Korean drama series. Agree?

.
Someone asked us the other day how long we’ve been together. Sweetheart’s reply shocked me. “3+ years”. Damn. Where did those years fly to?!?! A few more months and it’ll be 4 years. It got me thinking. About all the things we’ve been through in the past 3+ years. The laughter, the tears, the joy, the sorrow - the mad roller coaster ride.

.
It kinda serves as a wake-up call for me. To always take time to sit back and review all that we have said and done. Not to pour regretful thoughts over the past, but more like to learn from the past mistakes and to arm ourselves with additional knowledge for our self-protection, be it emotionally, physically or mentally, as we move into the future.

.
Do I have any regrets in the past 3+ years? NOPE. If someone up there decides to pull a fast one on us all and turned the clock back, I would still do the same things I did before. ‘Coz if not for them, how could I have known what I know today?

.
I know alot of folks disagree with me. That if given half the chance, they would redo many things in their lives. I personally never see the need for that. If I redo those things, some precious knowledge and experience I have gained from those things will be lost to me. Nope. Would not want that. Knowledge is a precious commodity. So is experience. Even the not-so-pleasant ones. No amount of money or love in this world can ever replace that.

.
But that’s just me :)

A BKT Birthday Celebration

Bah Kut Teh (BKT) has got to be the easiest dish to cook these days. Honestly. Those spice packets are easily available from any supermarkets. Just dump in whatever ingredients you fancy and hey presto, you have your very own homecooked BKT.

.
If you’re not confident about cooking your own BKT dish, refer to this post as a guideline. Very detailed and with pictures to guide you step-by-step. It really doesn’t get any easier than that. Me…I just threw in everything BKT-ish … minus the fatty meats. Too bad for some of the guys in the gang who love fatty meat, my very own Sweetheart included. :P

.

Reason we decided on BKT for dinner today was mainly becos a friend sheepishly admitted to us days ago that he has never had BKT in his entire life. Needless to say, we were not gonna let him stay a BKT virgin for long!

.
Go here to view the pictures taken on the BKT birthday party we threw for the dude.

.
Hope you had as much fun as we did, Isaac. You can now proudly tell your parents you ate rice with chopsticks today. And that you have had your BKT cherry popped! :D

Gotta have Spunk, dude!

No, I am not refering to the vulgar slang. Meant it as the kick-ass attitude that makes a person ever so irresistable to the opposite sex.

.
I’ve always believed that self-confidence is the SEXIEST attribute a person can ever have. Men or women alike. Doesn’t matter what size pants or dress you wear. Or whether you’ve to stand on tiptoe or bend down for that perfect kiss. It’s all about how good you feel about yourself. No?

.
“Well, she wants me to kiss her as much as I want to kiss her.”
“…erm, but I don’t feel too comfortable about you kissing her lah.”
“Why not? She wants it. I want it. 2 consenting adults. What’s the problem?”
“…but what if she likes your kiss so much that it changes her mind about my own performance with her???”
“What the…..!”

.
Sad lah, dude.
Why the inferiority complex?!?

.
To quote my Sweetheart - “Dude, you damn beh eong lah!”

.
Hmmmm….I think I am gonna dream about her succulent lips tonight. Sigh.

Eye Of the Storm

It’s OK with the concall marathons,
Night after night,
Days that turned into weeks that turned into months.

.
It’s OK with the running around,
Never stopping to catch a breath,
Always fighting to get a Life.

.
It’s OK with the erratic meal patterns,
Hunger pangs that breeds belligerence,
Only to be comforted by you.

.
Yes. You.
Just a simple smile from you.
With a gentle squeeze on my arm.
And a cheeky canoodling moment - stolen and lost in Time.

.
And this promise :
“We stock up on cuddlez … on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, k?”

.
Okayz :)

Lame

“Would you like to be my friend to bloom my days with happiness?”

“…I’ve been told that I am a funny, caring, intelligent man (Well…it depends if you dont think so)…Hope to get your reply if you love to have me as one of your sincere heartmate…”

.
What kinda lines are those???!!
‘Blooming his day with happiness’??? and ‘be his sincere heartmate’???

.
Guys, NOT cool to try and meet the ladies like that. For your sake, I hope you don’t really mean what you wrote.

.
‘Tis a lame world we live in sometimes. Or I’m just in a bitchy mood today. Maybe, maybe not.

….Define….Plan….Develop….Launch….Sustain….NSI….NPI….Service_Marketing….Service_Delivery
….APP….BRD….MRD….PCR….Due_diligence_document….blah….blah….blah….

.
Damn, I have PrP concepts flowing outta my ears, nose, brains and most probably, u-know-where too! So they claim that it’s THE bible for all Program Managers (PM).

.
You wanna be successful as a PM? You gotta be breathing, talking, swearing, drinking, eating, dreaming and shittin’ PrP lingo! Don’t believe me? Go up to any PMs (it may very well be a company-bred language) and ask them how their programs/projects are going. Then get ready to witness an oral diarrohea of all the above words.

.
Now, where the hell is the PrP handbook all PMs are singing praises for???? I need it to help me get thru this mad ride I am currently on!

Belated Birthday Post

This is a little belated but as folks say, ‘Better Late than Never’.

.
Last weekend, a dear friend celebrated his birthday with us. We went not knowing what to expect as we had been pre-wired that he did not invite the usual group of folks this year. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we found the unfamiliar faces so warm and friendly. By the time dinner was halfway through, many new friendships were forged. Nice meeting y’all!

.
Go here to view the pictures from the night’s celebration.

.
Dinner was at Xuan Xin in Tanjung Bungah. This place is amazingly full every weekend. I find the food so-so but guess it being the few air-conditioned steamboat buffet restaurants in Penang plus it’s reasonable pricing of under RM30nett per pax makes it a big hit with the Penangites. If you’ve not made reservations prior to heading over, you may as well forget about it ’coz the chances of you being turned away is about 99.99% on weekends. Don’t believe me? Try it once. :P

.
Go here to get details of the restaurant.

.
I’d like to write a little about the birthday dude. He is actually one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever met. However, he is extremely direct. He’s like what we Hokkiens refer to as “Tit kah long piak!”. That unfortunately makes him one of the most misunderstood guys I’ve ever known. Not one to slice his words nor beat around the bush, the poor dude had unintentionally offended a few folks and as a result, shunned from certain social activities.

.
So my dear friend, I am all for being direct and not having any hidden agenda … but we have to remember that humans are complex creatures. Not everyone is able to stomach the naked truth well, y’know. So let’s just be gentle with them, ya?

.
To you peeps out there, try opening up your hearts and minds to this dude. Trust me, you will find an offering of a friendship like no other. Sincerity in its purest form. Almost child-like. Amazingly beautiful.

.
This one’s for you, TH!

生日快乐!

This year is a big year for you, yes? A year of much excitement and many life-altering decisions. I’m sure if you think back to all the rides you’ve been on for the past 12 months, you’ll go “WOW!”. I know I did.

.
I cannot be physically there to give you a birthday hug but know that I am thinking of you with much, much love on this special day, ok?

.
Every year, I pray. That come October 20th, I will get the chance to wish you lots of love, joy and happiness although knowing that you already have them in your Life. One can never have too much of those, eh? :) .
.

祝您心想事成!

.
P/S - Hope you like the mugshot I made you today. :)

Cupid One

Many moons ago, I swore to myself that I will never EVER love another HK movie the way I fell in love with this one. Of coz I grew out of that promise but it had always stayed in my all-time favourite HK movie list.

.
Thanks to a certain someone, I was reminded of this again when he sent me an email with the youtube of the movie’s theme song. Sally’s hairstyle in the video is a dead giveaway that it was a classic 80’s movie, eh? LOL.

.
I’ve always loved Sally Yeh (and still do) who played her role of a spoilt heiress to the T. I think it was around that era of my life when I sharpened my definition of ‘My Dream Man’. I was practically dreaming and drooling over Mark Cheng every single night of my life then! (If you are a FLAME fan, you have Mark to thank for coz he was the one who started this makan chain in Penang & KL) It’s funny tho, how I realised as I grew up that it was the nerds that turned me on, not the jocks who are just nice to ‘cuci mata’ but are usually (not all, but most) empty up there.

.
Yeah, I am not ashamed to tell you that it’s the nerds that rock my boat. If you are close enough to me and know my relationship history, think back to all the guys I’ve been serious with (don’t count the non-serious ones lah!). Each and every one of them fits the nerd suit, no? Even my Sweetheart admits that he is a 100% nerd. LOL.

.
So hey you nerd, thanks for sharing the video with me, ya? I will keep looking for the movie and get you a copy too (IF I find it lah).

…dot, dot, dot…

“…we danced on the beach, kissed on the beach, and DOT DOT DOT!”

.
That’s my favourite opening line from Mama Mia the Movie. If you have not watched it, view the trailer here. If you have watched it and would like to grab hold of the song lyrics, go here.

.
For those of you who’ve watched the movie, did you know that the 2 original members of the ABBA band made cameo apperances in the movie? Benny was the piano player on the pier in the DANCING QUEEN song and Björn was one of the Greek gods floating on the clouds in the WATERLOO song at the end credits.

.
As you folks know from here, I’ve watched it last week. Second time round was this week and it was extra special in a fun-weird sorta way.

  • Fun - We brought someone with us on our Friday nite out.
  • Weird - It felt somewhat like a chaperoned movie date. Hehe…

Being an avid ABBA fan, Sweetheart’s mom was keen to watch the movie. We decided to bring her to the movies with us to watch it on the big screen. Her excited words to me as we headed into the cinema -“It’s been soooo long since I went to the movies that I don’t even remember when!”

.
I was kinda surprised to find Sweetheart throwing back his head to laugh a couple of times, and occasionally, even louder than the aunties sitting around us! Guess he enjoyed it too. Heh, who wouldn’t with great songs like these, huh???

.
So, yeah we had fun @ dinner (mostly it was his mom getting to know me better), we had fun @ the movie and after sending his mom home, we had fun DOT DOT DOT! :D

Code Red

In view of the current dire economic situation, folks have gotten desperate. REALLY desperate. Petty crimes are on the rise daily. Some we read about in the papers, hear on the news and sometimes,  even witness it as it unfolds right in front of us.

.
I was driving home from gym one evening this week when I witnessed a snatch theft. Taking my usual route home, I turned off from Kelawai Road into College Square (the square of houses surrounding the playground behind Convent Pulau Tikus) and saw this motorbike coming from the opposite direction. My alarm bells went off for the following reaons :

  • Altho m’bikes in Penang are notorious for going against the legal traffic direction, they usually move slowly and inch their way to the main roads before they pick up speed again. THIS ONE WAS GOING AT A *VERY* FAST PACE. SPEEDING MADNESS.
  • The rider was wearing a full-face helmet with extremely dark visor covering the entire face. Totally masked the identity of the rider. Where’s the blardy cops when we need them to do their jobs???

Almost immediately after the m’bike sped past my car, a lady came running after him screaming and holding on to one arm in pain. The car in front of me stopped, so did I. It was then that we realised the poor lady was a victim of a bike snatch theft. The driver of the car in front of me quickly passed her mobile phone to the poor distraught lady to make some emergency calls. I watched them for a minute. Trying to gauge if there was anything else I could do to help.

.
At the same time, one big part of my mind going :
“Your con call is starting in 30 mins. You gotta head home now if you wanna make it back in time for the call.”

.
I am ashamed to say that I then decided there was nothing much I could’ve done for the poor lady at that point in time and then drove on home. Felt *extremely* guilty about it and immediately called Sweetheart to pour my heart out. I REALLY wanted to stay on to offer any possible assistance to the poor victim but the weak (and perhaps selfish?) part of me caved in and I ended up driving on home.

.
I know you may never read this, but lady….I AM SOOOO SORRY I DID NOT STAY ON TO HELP IN WHATEVER WAY I COULD! *shameful sigh*

.
The thing with these petty crime is that they are all over in seconds. Mere seconds. One does not even have the chance to go “Oei!” before it was all over.  By the time the victim recovers from the shock, the pilferer is long gone.

.
Their key advantage : Element of Surprise.

.
So folks, please please PLEASE be more aware of your surroundings. Doesn’t matter whether you are riding a m’bike or driving a car or sitting in the car waiting for someone else or walking on the streets….it pays to be mindful of folks around you and I read somewhere that 90% of snatch thefts are avoided when the element of surprise is removed from the situation.

.
Those of you who live or move around the College Square area often, please be extra mindful when you are in that area. It is *SUPER* notorious for snatch thefts. I was told that it’s almost a daily occurance. And no, men are not exempted from these crimes as well. So, wipe that thought “I’m a guy, not a lady with a handbag. So, I should be safe lah!” off your head NOW!

.
To those folks who like to park your vehicles in the College Square area to avoid paying parking fees at Gurney Plaza (I know there are LOTS of you out there) … for the sake of your loved ones, think about this :

“Is your safety or even your life really worth that few ringgits of parking fees saved???”

.
If you have the ‘this-stuff-only-happens-to-others-not-me’ attitude, drop it like a hot charcoal NOW. Every one of us are potential victims. Yes, that means YOU, YOU, YOU including ME too.

I WANNA KILL SOMEONE TONIGHT!!!!!

.
I rushed thru gym.
I rushed thru traffic to get home.
I skipped dinner coz not enough time.
I have forgotten how it feels like to sleep for more than 2 hours at a go.
I am practically MARRIED to my job in the evenings already.

.
Wanna make changes to the call schedule? Can!
Wanna ammend the call agenda? Can!
Wanna invite guests to the call? Can!
Wanna ask me to present? Can!
Wanna get me to own several action items? Can!
Wanna CANCEL CALL BUT DID NOT NOTIFY ME?
.

CANNOT!!!!!

.
Coz in case you dunno ….

  • I don’t sit in front of my laptop 24/7 just to watch my Inbox traffic
  • I like to keep my WLB on a good scale
  • I have a very full & tight schedule
  • I lead a *VERY* active social life
  • I live on Paradise Island (read : lots of food exploring to do)

Emancipation

Have you ever felt like stepping out of your comfort zone and do something totally unfamiliar, something outrageous … just to feel Freedom in the newest possible sense?

.
I’m not sure how and where it came from, but it just hit me like a brick a few days ago. I woke up feeling so-so. Went through the 1st half of the day feeling so-so and then, BAM! Suddenly got so down and out that I didn’t feel like engaging in any of my regular activities. Walked around with a dark cloud hanging over my head, resenting myself and everyone else.

.
“WTF is wrong with me?!?”
- the question that kept swirling around my head the whole day.

.
Then it just hit me. I needed to do something unconventional. Something I wouldn’t dream of doing on any given day. Gawd, I needed it sooo bad that I was practically shaking all over. I was an emotional wreck. :(
.
I didn’t want to spread the negative vibes to those around me. It would be unfair to them. They wouldn’t know what hit them and if they tried to pick me up, I would’ve bitten their poor heads off.

.
So, I did the first thing that came to my heart : I drove myself to GSC and purchased a ticket to watch a feel-good movie.
(No, a DVD would not work coz I’d still be in the comfort of my own place. I needed to put myself in an unfamiliar territory to chase away the dark cloud!)

.
Can you guess which movie I picked? :D
(Hint : It’s still showing in the cinemas today)

.
As the lights dimmed and the picture came on, my heart lifted. Grudgingly but lifted it did. Within the first 10 minutes, I had a silly smile plastered on my face. I soon found myself throwing back my head and laughing loudly at the actors’ crazy antics. Then, my feet started tapping to the music and I was soon singing to the catchy tunes (never mind that the lady sitting next to me kept turning around to stare at me).

.
I was having  the time of my Life and I couldn’t give a damn about what others around me thought!

.
When the movie ended and the lights came on, I looked around and saw some familiar faces. Some folks from work, some folks from the gym, even some clubbing folks. Hehee…Penang is really small that way, huh?

.
Some gave me quizzical looks but were too polite to ask “What are you doing here ALONE?” but I could see it in their eyes. Everyone was either with a partner/friend or in a group. Did I feel shy or embarrassed about watching a movie by myself? Hell no!!! :)
.
I just flashed them one of my biggest smiles, and practically skipped out of the cinema. That night, I drove home with this thought in my head :

.

“I have never felt this liberated in my entire life and man, it feels DAMN good!!!”

FQ

Friends make my world go round. Some are so dear that they are almost family. Similarly for most people, my friends are categorised according to the way we interact, the way we relate to each other and most essentially, the way our minds and hearts connect.

.
Of coz there are many different levels and categories for the folks who touch our lives but for simplicity sake, let’s just call out the 2 main categories :

  1. Friends
  2. Acquaintances

I won’t go into details of explaining how these 2 categories work. I think you know very well how they are differentiated, ya?

.
What I will go into is the category in-between those two, what I call my “FQ” - ‘Frenquaintance’. They are the ones who :

  • Only contact you when they need some advice/favor/tips/etc…
  • Sometimes make you feel that your friendship is one-sided
  • Can’t be completely honest with you because ‘duwan to hurt your feelings mah’
  • Have looks in their eyes that send out different messages to the ones verbalised to you
  • Laugh at you with others behind your back (but feel slightly guilty abt it)

The thing is, these folks are closer to me in my heart than just my acquiantances but yet, they have shown/proven themselves to be less than friends.

.
Of late, I realised a lot of my friends are actually my FQs. I have gone through a roller-coaster ride of emotions when I put together all their actions (or inaction) and words (or silence) in my mind.

.
With a heavy heart, I wondered about how I should place them in my Life. Should I just stop initiating contact with them (most of the time, it’s one-sided anyways)?  Or should I just shut them out of my heart completely to avoid getting hurt further?

.
No, I will NOT allow you folks to hurt me anymore. If my offering of a sincere friendship is not appreciated, there really is no point offering it in the first place, is there?

.
Definitely not.

Sweets for my Sweet

I was feeling blue. Everything looked bleak. Like an empty shell, I dragged my feet around all day. One part of me trying to understand why I’m feeling so bleh. Another part getting all emo. Blaming the world for everything and nothing.

.
As I groggily ploughed through my emails for the day whilst trying to shake the blues away, my doorbell went off. There stood my man looking hot in his Oaks shades - holding a quart of BR in one hand and lunch in the other.

.
Eagerly, I reached for the quart (never mind the food!) and peeked inside.

.
“Pralines & Cream??? But baby, I like Jamoca Almond Fudge, not Pralines. Remember the last time you bought me some Pralines and I told you that I found it too sweet?”
.
“I know but you need Pralines ‘cos you need the sweetness. It triggers the happy cells in your mind and body. You need the sweets today, baby.”
.
“Oh.”

.
Such is the sweetness of my Sweetheart.

From Within

If you’re down and feeling blue,
If you’re missing someone badly,
If you were just dealt a bad card,
If you felt cheated by the tricks of Time,
Know that you have Me.

.
I am your strength, your Ace, your rainbow, your light.
And I will be here for you no matter what and when.
Long, long after everyone and everything is gone.

.
All you need to do is look deep inside.
I will be here.

Ciabatta

Pronounced “Cha-baht-ta”, it is more popularly known as the ‘Italian-slipper Bread’. The name is a reference to the shape, which somewhat resembles a slipper.

I discovered this yesterday when I was looking for something light to eat for lunch. All the other bread at the bakery (yes, I am a roti fan!) seemed either too sweet or too complicated (stuffings that look like they don’t belong inside a bread. Urgh).

.
While browsing through the bakery at Cold Storage, the Italian-slipper bread caught my eye. It looked simple, yet intriguing. I peeked at the label and saw the word ‘CIABATTA’.

.
“Hmmmm….what’s this? Nama pun canggih sangat for a roti!” - I thought. Curiosity tickled, I picked up a loaf and headed to the counter to pay for it. RM 4.58 for a medium sized loaf. After the first bite, I just couldn’t stop and before I knew it, half the loaf was gone! Talk about gluttony, eh? Hehe…

.
Go here to read more about it. There’s some cool recipes in there too. It seems there are several variations. The Romans add marjoram to it. Hmmm…maybe the Malaysians can add cili padi to it??? LOL

.
Doubt I’ll be that adventurous and bake my own roti. Haven’t ventured into that arena yet. I’m still not done playing around with desserts (yes, I still have the cupcake fever. Hehe…)

.
If you are a sandwich fan, check it out. It’s the perfect bread for sandwiches. It definitely scores high marks in the health-books and not as complicated as those multi-grain bread nor as dry as wheat or wholemeal bread. So, yeah … me recommend it high-high! :D

Roti, anyone?

Queenly Rewards

She skipped meals.
She lost sleep.
She missed gym.
Her stress level hit the roof and beyond.
.
All because she needs to put food on the table. And green (and blue and purple ones too!) bills in her wallet, of coz.

Esquiva

I work hard. I play hard. I work hard some more.
Why? So that I can have more moolah to play even harder lah! :D .
Now before you turn on your disapproving mode and go ‘tsk tsk tsk’ in your mind, hear (or rather, read) me out.

.
Everybody plays. Deny it all you want but I know it’s true. It’s the way one plays that differs. Someone I know considers spending time and money on gardening stuff as playing. Some consider travelling as their way of turning on their play button. I have several play buttons of my own and one of it is getting my adrenaline fix at the gym.

.
The thing is, I find the regular stuff folks do at the gym B-O-R-I-N-G. Running on treadmills, walk on the stepper, lifting free weights. The max I can last on those is 30 mins. Then, I lose interest. So the only thing that keeps me going back to the gym is …. the cardio classes! Yup. Thanks to Les Mills. I never have to worry about being bored while getting my adrenaline fix at the gym.

.
My # 1 favourite cardio workout atm : BODYCOMBAT # 37

.
Simply lurve, lurve, LURVE its Underworld/Blade Vampire theme! I mean, how cool is that, huh? And the music. OMG the music. We are sooo nuts over the music! Check out the tracklist below and I *DARE* you to tell me it’s not OFTFW (Out Of This F***ing World)!

  1. Summer of 69 (Mega-mania) / I Never Liked You (Rogue Traders)
  2. Beat It (Fall Out Boy feat. John Mayer)
  3. Baby I’ll Let You Know (Darryn Styles vs Hypasonic)
  4. We Will Survive (Warp Brothers)
  5. How Far We’ve Come (Matchbox Twenty)
*Sweetheart goes mad in this track. It’s like his MOST MOST fav track*
  6. Stamp (Jeremy Healy & Amos)
  7. Let The Beat Control Your Body (2 Unlimited)
  8. Sea Of Love - Hixxy Remix (Frisco)
  9. Church (T-Pain feat. Teddy Verseti)
  10. Our Solemn Hour (Within Temptation)

If you are a cardio fan like us and have not tried out the latest BODYCOMBAT (BC) release, you are sooooo missing out on the *real* thing! Honestly. Go go go go check it out, ok? Even if your regular session at the gym is just the treadmill and machines, at least try it out ONCE. I promise you an experience of a lifetime. Reeeeally wan. *cross my heart & hope to die!*

.
Go here to read about the personal review of the latest BC release by a Kiwi dude.

.
My favourite tracks in the entire session -
Track # 4 : We Will Survive (Warp Brothers) &
Track # 6 : Stamp (Jeremy Healy & Amos)

.
Why? Because they are the toughest! Lots of kicks, squats, lunges…..and man, I love the ESQUIVA. It’s Portugese for “ESCAPE” which is a Capoeira defending technique. The ESQUIVA move is choreographed into track # 6. Every time I do it, my legs felt like they were gonna drop off but each session always, always, ALWAYS left me yearning for more! Really.

.
The total number of kicks for this release : 276!
That’s DUA RATUS TUJUH PULUH ENAM. NOH PAK CHEET CHAP LAK. LIANG BAI QI SHI LIU.
.
To quote Phua Chu Kang, “Don’t pray pray!”

We came, we saw & we KILLED SOME VAMPIRES!!!

Peace of Heart

You know, I could never explain why and how you have this permanent hold on my heart. No matter how far we’ve moved on in our own separate lives. No matter how infrequently we talk to each other anymore. I will never stop loving you. Till the day I draw my final breath.

You

Of late, I’ve been thinking about you. Alot. And I’ve *so* much to say to you. Yet, I don’t know how to start. Unfortunately for now, I am unable to say it all to you F2F coz I will break down. Like real bad. Call me a fool but that’s who I am. A sentimental fool who loves more than she sometimes should.

Sad, but honest truth. Gimme some time,k? I know I will come around. You will soon see.

Celebration # 3

This year, he pretty much had it covered. From a swanky KL hotel room for Celebration # 1 to a Superclub in Subang for Celebration # 2 and finally, to the beach in Penang for Celebration # 3. Then again, how could we expect any less from one of the smoothest operators we’ve ever known?
