Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to savour Creolean food. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I soon realised that I could very easily fall in love with Creolean cuisine.
.
My one and only affair with this divine food was at Gumbo’s.
.
Although I was going abit mad (just abit lah!) from having to narrow down my choices to what my stomach has space for, I somehow managed to settle for :
- Crawfish Étouffée
(which was an appetizer made up of really yummy crawfish tails with some sort of fine grained rice) - Shrimp Pasta
(served in creamy Creole lemon-caper-tarragon sauce, on a bed of tossed linguine. YUM!)
Then my eyes caught something on the menu : Dirty Rice
.
What the *toot* is that?? How can anyone give it such a name?? Is it safe to eat?? It is any good?? How is it prepared/cooked? - the slew of questions that ran across my mind at that point in time.
.
Finally, to shut me up, my lunch mate let me try a mouthful of it from his plate. Its taste : MIND-BLOWING!!!
.
Fast forward 8 months, I am reminded of the wonderful taste of this unique dish. So, I went scouting around for some easy recipe to prepare it and cook it for those I love.
.
I found it here and here.
.
Hopefuly *fingers tightly crossed*, I will have some time to try cooking it this weekend. Otherwise, t’will hafta wait till next month when I am back from Nihon-Land.
What the heck is Creolean Cuisine???
In this case, I was refering to an ethnic culture in Louisiana, USA. The Creolean community is a mixture of mainly French, Spanish, African, and Native-American heritage. Their unique style of cooking originated from New Orleans. Their food is very different from other parts of the USA and I personally find it fascinating and YUMMY!
I see, where to sample ar? We go where the good food is!!!
Haiya…in America pulak….sini tak ada kah?
Sigh….how to taste Dirty Rice la…
In Paradise Island memang takdak lah. But you may get lucky in KL. Since you are in KL, chances of you getting to taste it in a restaurant is higher than me here loh.
The good news is, the recipe seems pretty straightforward and easy. I may try cooking it one of these weekends and let you know if it’s a success or not. Then, you can try it for yourself. How’s that for a deal?
Hmmm….wonder if Leng can find it where she’s at…..I keep forgetting which state she’s at.
