Pigs in a blanket

Most folks know that I have many loves in my life.
.
Love for me, love for you, love for him, love for my family, love for passion, love for fun, love for Absolut Vodka *hic* and most importantly, love for food.

.
However, there is one kind of food I am not particularly fond of. DEEP-FRIED FOOD. Sure, I get the occasional hankering for it but I always, always, ALWAYS regret chowing down on them coz they always make my stomach feel weird afterwards. Not to mention the unhealthy aspect of it. :(
.
I mean, I want to live a decently long (meaning not TOO long) Life to enjoy the fruits of my labour. How to do that if I am battling health issues, right?
.
So it’s not much of a surprise that my stomach always suffers whenever I travel to the US of A. More often than not, I’ll end up eating Vietnamese food, Japanese food, Chinese food, Mexican food, Italian food and totally stayed away from greasy American food after the first 2 days.
.
Hooters was alot of fun. Not the food, but the ogling at their you-know-what. And the countless burger ‘n’ beer joints. All serving greasy fries, onion rings, buffalo wings, cheesy nachos and MORE fried stuff. Just imagine having your meals at TGIF or Chilli’s every single day. Well, it may be up the alley for some folks but definitely *not* for me.
.
I digress.
I just realised I haven’t gotten to the gist of this post. *LOL*
.
However, there is ONE greasy, unhealthy deep-fried American food that I absolutely love. Lurve, lurve, lurrrveee it! So much that I do not mind having it every single friggin’ day! :D
.
This is what I am talking about.

This is what the Yankees call Corn Dogs’. The Canadians call them ‘Pogo Sticks’ but it’s generally fondly referred to as ‘Pigs in a blanket’. It’s available in many different variations but my personal fav is the simple corn batter. Here is an all-original corn dog recipe.
.
Its taste is simple, yet divine. Kids and adults alike love it. Unfortunately, it is super duper unhealthy! Well, by my personal standards lah. To quote a popular site,

“Corn dogs are excellent source of calories, fat, cholesterol and salt.”

‘Nuff said.
.
Of late, for some unexplained reasons, I have been harboring a deep hankering for this sinfully unhealthy food. Went around searching for it but nope, not even the frozen ones are available on my beloved Paradise Island. :(
.
Then, I remembered that Auntie Anne’s have a similar version. They call it the Pretzel Dog.

So to satisfy my craving, I gobbled up one the other day. Aiyoh! Totally different taste and absolutely dissatisfying! Made me yearn for a corn dog even more! *cry*
.
I am now SERIOUSLY contemplating asking my boss to tapao some frozen packs of it from Austin when he comes over to this part of the world in 2 weeks. Hmmm…the more I think about it, the more I believe I should do that. *nod nod*
.
Ok folks, I’m going off to daydream about my corn dogs now. Until I get to taste it in my mouth again…. *sigh*
