Thanks to a fellow foodie, I learnt that there is a place in BM (Bukit Mertajam) that serves good yam rice. Considering that the island is rather deprived of such delicacy (there are some yam rice stalls peppered all over the island but none has stood out taste-wise), I decided to check out this place over the weekend.

BM Yam Rice Hunt
Enough is enough.

I’ve been telling myself that I will not stoop as low as her, be as childish as her to blame it all on one side (it takes both hands to clap, after all), be the bigger person that I know I am … but how much more of her ice queen shit do I have to swallow?
Pic test
Here is my attempt to test out the picture loading capability of the beta tool.
Great Horizon
Life in motion :
- Am currently playing around with the new features of the beta tool. Can upload videos also wor. And many other cool stuff. Hopefully will get to share with you folks sometime soon.
Arlo!
Not sure how this works. The interface looks a little different. Too early to decide if it’s better or worse.
*Announcement*
About 2 weeks ago, I received an invitation from Frienster Blog team to participate in the beta testing of their new blog product (Blogs 2.0) which will be officially launched on September 10th 2008.
Belated Celebration
It may be belated but it was still a dynamite of a celebration! ![]()
.
The night started with yummilicious Italian food and great wine (Ruby Cabernet is our current new love) at our favourite restaurant downtown.

Torched Out
All good things must come to an end.
.
That applies to the XXIX Olympiad as well. 15 days after this, we decided to get together to witness the torch-out moment as well as to see if the English folks could upkeep the Olympics motto : Citius, Altius, Fortius.
Twilight years
It’s barely been a week since my folks got back from Thailand. This weekend, we just sent Sweetheart’s mom off as she headed Down Under for her vacation.
The W Word
The load’s getting heavier,
The attention’s getting keener,
The scope’s getting wider,
The expectation’s getting higher,
When, I wonder…will the paycheck be getting bigger?
.
Sheeesh…
How many times can I reject them before I start feeling obligated to accept?
.
Been saying No to them since Day One but at the rate they are resending the Friday night invites, I cannot help but feel bad for rejecting them again and again. It’s not like I wasn’t upfront and honest with them on why I rejected all those previous invites.
Bleh
It sux to be sick.
.
No gym.
No fun.
No nothing.
Beijing Olympics Music
Since I got bitten by the bug, I went searching for more Beijing Olympics songs and here are the treasures I discovered.
.
See? I am not the selfish bitch that some of you think I am
This version is minus the names of the artists and with the pinyin lyrics.
.
So what, therefore? Nothing much.
Except that banana folks like yours truly will be able to then learn how to sing this song. Instead of only humming to the music.
This may be stale info for some folks but I finally had the chance to listen to it today on Channel 816. Simply love, love, LOVE the song! Makes me so darn proud to be a Chinese, albeit a banana-chinese. :p
Hungry Go Where?
IKEA Gems
As much as I love this little paradise island, I have to admit that we are sadly deprived of many things. There are many treasures I’ve been searching high and low for but always get sorely disappointed. They are either not available anywhere on the island or priced waayyy out of my league.
New Dude on the Block
Hi folks!
Greetings from a 10-day old. Yuppp, I am a lucky 08.08.08 baby and my name is Glen.
Crème brulée
After the many sinful trips to ECCO and the constant teasing from the owner/chef about how super duper easy it is to bake one of our favourite desserts, we decided to put our experimental hats on and try baking our very own crème brulée.
八
Today marks the 8th year of my life as a Dellian.
.
That’s close to 3000 days of madness, anxiety, excitement, endless learnings, sleepless nights, great adventures, wonderful experiences and above all, discovering lifelong friendships across the contingents.
My God
I was asked a weird question recently.
.
“Eleen, which God do you believe in?”
.
Huh??? Is there more than one God? How many do we need anyways? Do we get more prayers answered if we pray to more than one God?

Family Ties
Remember this post?
.
It is still raging on wildly. In the office. Out of the office. Blardy ALL over!
.
Recently, some of my family members decided to get connected online and prove to the world that we are not technologically challenged. Emails started flying all over. FB lines getting burnt up. It was total madness. Doubled with the fact that one of the cuz is tying the knot end of this year. So, more excitement were churned up as we discussed a highly-probable family reunion at the wedding dinner.
.
We’ve all been so caught up with Life and work/studies that we eventually lost touch with each other. It seemed an eternity ago when we were all chucked at our grandparents’ place while our parents went out to the big, bad world to earn food to feed our hungry mouths. Back then, day-care centres were not in vogue yet. Or they were just too pricey for middle-class families like ours.
.
As we viewed each other’s FB profiles, my cuz sister from Down Under commented that I had a ‘Megan Dale’ thing going. Ignorant me thought it was an Ozzie insult, so I lashed back. Only to be told that it was actually a compliment. *phai seh*
.
You will understand why when you view this and this. Nose bleeding yet?
.
I know mine did. *drool some more*
2-in-1
Since FS farked up on me last week, I was unable to share some pictures from the weekend before last. So, these are a little belated. Bear with me, ya?
.
2 parties in 1 night.
.
Party # 1 : Housewarming cum Mahjong party at Sweetheart’s ex-workmate’s place. Sweet folks. Made a promise to cook them dinner one day. Will have to find a free weekend, though. Unfortunately, all weekends are booked till at least end of this month.
.
.
Party # 2 : Birthday party that started at the club and continued at a hotel room. And we had CLEAN fun. So get your mind outta the gutter!
.
.
There was lots of beer drinking. Like crazy lots. And since Sweetheart and I were not exactly beer-lovers, we just chilled and talked c0ck with the folks till the sun came up. Then, it was off to breakfast before going home to cuddle to sleep.
.
What a night!
Happy Birthday, Girlie!
If there’s an award for the most supportive friend, she wins hands-down.
If there’s an award for the most patient person, no one comes close.
If there’s an award for the person with the BIGGEST heart, she takes it home.
.
This is her.
.
.
And today is her day.
.
Those who know her, love her. And those who love her know that she loves back unconditionally. Never one to judge, she is always the first to open up her arms and heart.
.
In recent years, I have watched her blossom. From a timid, insecure gal to the gorgeous, sexy (HOT! HOT! HOT!) and confident gal she is today. She now glares back at what used to intimidate her. No longer one to take BS from folks who take her for granted, she has grown to be stronger. To be bolder.
.
Today, I am honored to say that I am darn proud of her. And also darn lucky to have her as one of my bestest friends! I know without a doubt that she will always have my back. No matter what.
.
Thanks for your unconditional love, girl.
Thanks for your wonderful support when I am down and out.
Thanks for believing in me when all have given up.
Thanks for always being there for me when I needed you…
…even when I insisted that I didn’t need you.
And most importantly, thanks for being you.
.
Just remember that you deserve to be loved. To be cherished. To be pampered. To be appreciated. Because you are *totally* worth it! And anyone who makes you feel unloved, uncherished, unpampered and unappreciated do NOT deserve to have you in his/her life.
.
You are truly a gem and I love you very, very, very MUCHO!
.
*muax & hugz*
Family Fun
Over the weekend, I got to spend some quality time with some family members.
.
It was fun, albeit abit hard for me coz they are all diurnals while I am a nocturnal. I had a grand total of 2 hours sleep prior to the family date - thanks to the Olympics and mahjong session the night before.
.
Nevertheless, I still had a ball.
.
Seeing my grandma that morning made me realise how old she has grown and that I have not seen her in ages. I was suddenly reminded of my beloved grandpa and how I miss him. We lost him a few years ago to the dirty C word. Gawd, how I miss him! Will write about him one day, I’ve many wonderful memories with and about him.
.
This is me with grandma. For a 82-year old, she’s still looking good, eh?
.
.
And here are her sisters, my grandaunts. The one in white top used to be the *best* chef in our family. The Hokkien Mee and Laksa dishes that she whipped up are killers! Unfortunately, age has caught up with her and she tires easily now. So, no more cooking.
.
.
Here’s one with mommy dearest and her closest sister and aunt. The one on the far left is another of my grandaunts, mom’s in the middle and the one on the far right is my favourite aunt. She is also the strictest, mainly because she was the headmistress of MGS and steered a tight ship in school and also at home.
.
.
She is also the most positive person I have ever known in my entire life. I have never seen a C-patient talk so openly about how she escaped Death’s clutches and I’ve never seen anyone fight as hard and as bravely as she did. Despite all that she had gone through (the chemotherapy sessions, the many times going under the knife, the emotional rides), she has SOOOO much love to give to all of us. And we all love her dearly.
.
And the last picture I am sharing in this post is a rare one. One of me and my dad. I don’t have many pictures taken with him and those I have are very serious ones. My dad was very strict with my brother and I. No fooling around with him. He was very conservative and believed father-child relationship must be kept *very* serious to maintain the respect. So, there was always an invisible line between him and us. I never believed in that invisible line and for as long as I can remember, I always pushed to get rid of the line.
.
He mellowed down over the years and it was then that my relationship with him improved. Today, I can easily fool around with him without him giving me ‘THE father’ glare.
.
This is me and daddy.
.
.
And no, I did not get ‘THE Father’ glare after that picture trick I pulled on him. :)))
.
I still have a few other favourite family members peppered all over the world but these are the ones who hang around the island and are my #1 fans.
.
Definitely a day to be cherished. For sure.
08.08.08 - Part 2
It was decided weeks back.
.
We were to gather at my pad and watch the event of the year together. And as usual, I will kautim dinner while the others take care of snacks. Dinner menu was :
- Bacon ‘n’ cheese fried rice
- Black pepper fried udon with shrimps
.
No pictures of dinner coz we were too caught up in making sure dinner was ready in time so that we could enjoy it while watching the world’s dream being realised.
.
The event was supremely amazing! Check out pictures of the event here.
.
As we watched China proudly share her rich culture with the world, we can’t help but be damn proud to be Malaysian Chinese.
Gotta give it to the Chinese to make full use of what they have an abundance of - PEOPLE. Utterly amazing, eh?
.
We got abit excited when Yao Ming walked out, leading the China delegation around the stadium for the world to see. Although it was not his 1st time leading the Chinese team in the Olympic Games, this 2nd time was different. He was doing it in his homeland and one could see the pride on his face as he took those long strides around the bird’s nest stadium. Walking next to him was the 9-year old boy from the recent Sichuan quake. Watching them both touched the hearts of millions around the world. Check it out here if you missed it.
.
All of us learnt some good lessons about the world last night.
.
"What’s that country again?"
"How does one pronounce that word?!"
"Guam folks get US citizenship?"
"OhhHHhhhh! That’s how Bhutan’s flag looks like!"
.
Here’re the limited pictures taken last night. We were just too busy having our eyes and ears glued to the screen.
.
.
The picture on top is us waving back at the Chinese VIPs when they waved to the crowd. Right before the IOC President’s awesome speech.
.
So on 08.08.08, we all became One.
Eeeeezback!
Hey hey hey peeps!
.
Not sure how and why, but one thing’s certain - I am back!!!!!
.
With all the BS gone, I will return to updating this space instead of the other one. Why?
- Because I have to admit that I am a creature of habit. I have gotten comfortable with FS. It feels weird moving around Blogspot.
- Because I am too lazy to research on RSS and any other live feed tools to get my readers updated on any latest posts at Blogspot.
- Because I know you love this space more too
.
Although I have started Part 1 of my 08.08.08 update at Blogspot, I will finish off Part 2 in this space (sorry Blogspot, but FS is my space).
.
So, stay tuned ya! :)))
Life’s Mysteries
Without any warning, you died on me.
Then without any explanation, you came back.
.
Despite all the frustrations, I still opened my heart to you when you returned. Neither did I question you on why you put me through what you put me through. To me, it’s best left alone. I just don’t wanna know.
.
It will always remain one of the many unanswered things in Life. So be it.
The End
I’ve unashamedly poured my heart and soul to you. Shared many laughs and many tears. Never allowing anyone or anything to come between us. Always had my hunger and my thirst satiated - by You. Sadly … I have outgrown you, outlived you, outloved you. Yes, after 1.5 years and 500 posts, it is time to move on. Farewell, my dear. This is the end of my journey with you. My love and life affair continues @ http://eleenpor.blogspot.com. I will always treasure all that we’ve shared, ya! *Lots n lots of Love*
Farewell? Nawww!
She’s heading some 300+ km south to do her thing. Strange how it didn’t really hit me till last night. We’ve talked and joked about it for awhile, and I’ve strangely never really thought of her as ‘going away’. More as ‘being tied up’.
.
Then, we had a group thingy. Dinner @ TGIF’s, drinking, playing games and talking c0ck @ O’reilly’s, supper at 1+am and finally calling it a night at way, way past our weeknite curfews.
.
.
How do we know it was time to call it a night?
.
When one went "Ais panas satu!" and another went "Char koey teow satu, tak mau koay teow!". We knew then that it was time to go home. You know who you are.
.
Then, it suddenly hit me.
.
.
I am gonna miss her. Bad. Yah, real bad.
.
:`(
.
You come back often to hang with us, ya’hear???
