Every year, Cheng Beng falls on my Sweetheart’s birthday. He grumbles that his day is so inauspicious but I told him at least it’s special and easy for folks to remember.
.
I learnt recently that the festival can start as early as 10 days prior and end as late as 10 days post April 5th.
.
Having said that, most folks still picked this Sunday (30th March) to pay their respects to their ancestors. So what does that mean for the narrow roads of Penang? Jam lah! Not just regular jam but gila-gila kinda jam!
.
There are many sh!t in Life I can tolerate but traffic jam is NOT on that list. So, I made a pact with my parents. Want me to go with the family for Cheng Beng this year? We go after the mad crowd is done. Which means no early Sunday morning crowd-squeezing. It was decided that we will all meet at the Penang United Hokkien Cemetery at 5pm.
.
So, today, we visited Ah Kong and Ah Ma.
.
.
Can’t believe it’s been 10 years. 10 since I last saw Ah Ma and 12 since I last saw Ah Kong.
.
Hope they are having fun in Heaven. To me, they have always been the coolest grandparents.
