It seemed just like yesterday when her dad passed her resume to Mark and said to him, "Mark ah, my daughter just graduated with her degree. Can you please pass her resume to your girlfriend at Dell to see if they have any vacancies for her?". "Sure, Wong Sir. I’ll pass it to Eleen and see what she can do."
.
One sunny day in 2001, a gorgeous young lady excitedly walked into the halls of Dell - her first day on the job. I still remember that tin of Danish butter cookies she brought to my cube, presented with a huge grin on her face. I have grown to know and love that beautiful face as the years go by.
.
One year was all the time she spent with the CMG team before I ‘poached’ her over to my team.
We spent the next 3 years making waves in Dell. We built the team from a tiny team of less than 5 to a team of close to 30. I was soo proud of US! We worked together, played together, cried together, laughed together and grew up together. Some moved on to other places (within and out of Dell) but still, our friendships remain strong. I thank God everyday for these wonderful, sincere people who came into my Life.
.
Back to Emily.
.
She is one of the most caring and loving person I have ever met. Above all, her sincerity draws people to her. She makes others feel at ease with her. When bad things happen to others, she is always the first to cry. She has got to be one of the most empathetic person I’ve ever known.
.
Everyone enjoys an open friendship with her. Lucky me - I got extra attention from her.
She was (still is!) my Chinese teacher. I get to practise my Mandarin with her. When I make embarrassing mistakes, never once did she laugh at me. A gentle correction was all she offered me when I made those boo-boo.
.
Yesterday, she turned one year wiser. We didn’t get to celebrate the day with her as she has this sneaky habit of taking her birthdays off every year. So, Sweetheart and I ordered a bouquet of lilies and had it delivered to her early this morning. Later in the afternoon, her team celebrated with a birthday cake.
.
Know that we all love you, Em! *smoooooochhh*

I love you too Emily! May you blossom in health and happiness every year… You are gorgeous as it is…
Dear Eleen…am in tears while writing these…I gotto know that you wanted to put up a blog regarding my big day but didn’t know it was only meant for me! it was a real touched and warmth dedication…Am very very glad too to have you this ‘tai kar cher’ in my life, as you know i am the eldest in the family..and my career path seems like had tied a knot with you, from you helped me entered Dell, recruit to SPS, and to moving to GCP PP, all Eleen-related. That’s why I able to seek all advices. Once again from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU ELEEN POR !
Hey, like I always tell you, you’ve gotta have what it takes to do a job. Showing you the path to the job is but a small step. You are the one walking all the big steps. You proved yourself worthy to be ‘poached’ to the other teams.
I am SO proud that you are moving on to a bigger role in GCP PP. There’s a whole new world over there. Trust me, you will feel like you joined a new company! (That was how I felt when I moved to to my GCP role years ago).
You will soon discover how truly diversified Dell is!
Good Luck!!!
