17 March 2007 - Almost 5 years since my last visit to Malaysia’s wondrous caves concealed within the limestone hills of South Perak : Gua Tempurung.
The group size this time round was much bigger than my 2002 trip of 6 good friends. We counted a total of 23 heads just before our rented bus departed from Dell AP1 on a bright Saturday morning.
The fun began even before we reached the Caves. In the bus enroute to the cave, the team was already divided into 3 groups:
1) The ones sitting in front catching up on their reading,
2) The ones sitting in the middle of the bus with their mouths wide open…catching up on their sleep,
3) The ones sitting right at the back of the bus making fun of groups (1) and (2)…and excitedly testing out their torchlights and headlamps.
One team member was proud to share her recently purchased headlamp from good ‘ol BJC for less than RM30. Due to my wonderful elephant memory, I totally forgot to go headlamp-shopping! Ended up having to use my 5-year old headlamp which was last used during our Kinabalu hike. Thank God it was still working!
One team member came equipped with a bright yellow poncho!
One look at her and our cave guide went "Aik…pakai macam ni buat apa?? Pasti basah kuyup nanti! Pakai raincoat ni takde guna-nye…" True to his words, we were all drenched through when we walked out of the cave a good 4 hours later.
To cut a long story short, we had LOTS of fun exploring the cave. Laughing at each other…lending a hand to one another as we crawled, climbed, slid down a VERY steep and muddy patch of rock, walked-like-a-duck, navigated our ways through small slits in between rocks, swam our way through pockets of water trapped by very low rocks…and came out in one single piece!
Thanks to the creators of ziplock bags, all our digital cameras survived the crawling, climbing and even swimming. The pictures shared with all after the trip was testimonial of the cameras’ performances.
Some of our team members who were not able to join this teambuilding activity were jealous out of their minds when they saw the pictures of us having FUN! Somehow, I get this feeling that attendance for the next teambuilding session will be much fuller…hmmm……
Wonder what they will think of my next idea for teambuilding : A rock climbing trip to Krabi, Thailand!
